From Hibernation

Just to show that I still plan on updating this.  After all, I didn’t get to part 2 of the New Zealand trip (which I will).

We’re heading off to Emerald City Comicon this coming March 1; me, Stephen Segovia, and Jay Anacleto together with our rep Kirk Dilbeck.  So if you’re in the area, drop by our table (Which I think is going to be M11 and 12).   The site’s not updated so we’re not on the site’s Artist Alley list.

After which I’m going to get back to updating this site.

Something I did last week.

Les Femmes Fatales

Jay Tablante had a successful opening of his cosplay photo exhibit; Les Femmes Fatales, a week ago.  The exhibit features a sample of his most recent photographs of pop culture heroines, whose shoots a few of us had been lucky enough to attend.  It’s still up, and you can still visit The Crucible.

Let There Be— Tree

SpeedTree Software

Here’s an awesome way to model trees in 3D.  It’s the closest thing you’d get to having god-like powers (well in the virtual universe, that is).

—  I wanna try it!  The process looks so intuitive.

Edit:  Just found out it was used for James Cameron’s Avatar, so that elevates the price to the cost of a liver

Silver Surfer

SO the book is coming in this week, and we’re all hoping you’ll grab it (in exchange for cash of course) and the story is set after the events of Chaos War.  Silver Surfer is written by Greg Pak and interiors done by our good friend Stephen Segovia.  I had the privilege of doing the covers.

There will be a signing for the launch of the series; however locally at Comic Odyssey in Robinsons Galleria this Saturday.  Present will be Stephen Segovia and Harvey Tolibao.  Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend as Deadline looms…  I also will not be able to attend Komikstrip scheduled also this Saturday.

As you’ve already seen the full colors for the cover, allow me to share the pencils and inks

A Study of Death

Isn’t it fun that everytime you use the names of one or more of the Endless you end up with seemingly profound sentences?

Death

Did this to freshen my mind while doing layouts, it’s digitally drawn, and a study for something I plan on drawing soon.

Good Morning!

For Collectors and Afficionados

For those who have been interested in purchasing my artwork, or commissions may I direct you to Kirk Dilbeck for any inquiries.  For those unaware I am no longer under the representation of Glass House Graphics since 2009 — as do Harvey Tolibao, Jason Paz, Stephen Segovia, and Jeffrey Huet.  And just last year, Me, Stephen and Jason have signed with 3-Wishes, who also reps the Great Philip Tan — capital “G” and the Phenomenal Jay Anacleto — Capital “G” too for godlike.

Although I have to advise I haven’t yet started with commissions, but will be in contact with Kirk if and when.

Let me leave you for now with the Pencils for cover 615 of Hulk

A Look Back

Haven’t been posting artwork for a long time, so I thought I ‘d do that by focusing on my favorite pages of past works

So let me start off with these, from the 2 part Agents of Atlas vs The X-men; written by Jeff Parker

AgentsofAtlas_12_0021-1

AgentsofAtlas_12_0022-1

To be specific my most favorite is the last panel for page 21 all through the splash.

Whenever I draw a sequence, I imagine it always moving.  Hence for panel 5, I thought it would be could to see Cloak unfurling his… well — cloak; billowing with rushing air coming in from the other side and then fully opens to (page 22) rush the X-men out.  And why page 22 is a fave is obvious, Love the X-men

After drawing the pages (and the previous ones with Cloak and Dagger), I thought It’d be great to have a TV series of the Duo.  It has the necessary elements that could make it relatable for the present viewers;, drugs, crime, teen drama (at least it isn’t another Vampire emo series).  Yeah I’d watch that.

So while posting this one, I googled “Cloak and Dagger TV Series” … There’s a plan!  Cooool.

The Young Laura Kinney

This is an uber late feature of Jay Tablante‘s shoot prior to going to STGCC.  This one I guess you’ve already seen floating in the net but nonetheless, it was fun watching the shoot happen.  When Jay mentioned he had scheduled an X-23 shoot (which then was to feature a prominent actress), I had mused to him if he might do a younger adolescent X-23.  And he did, much sooner than I had expected.

The younger Laura Kinney was then played by the young actress Barbie Forteza from GMA channel.  And before the shoot proper Jhem Manalang (who does the Art Direction) mentioned getting stunned about all the news coverage from the channel’s entertainment segment.  The shoot idea is after all inspired from Kick-Ass’ Hit Girl; the preteen vigilante, and the young x-23 at the same age of 13 was already an assasin.  A role not donned by any actress of the same age.  And when I did ask Barbie if an offer came for such a character, she unhesitatingly said “Go”… with a thumbs up.  And us knowing she hasn’t seen Kick Ass, I had to glance over her parents who were watching the shoot as well…  They may have not seen it too.

But the girl was more than happy to pretend being a killer, while dreading about tripping over and accidentally stabbing the SWAT guy underneath.

Managed to also put together this one… however I couldn’t cram in more video or pictures since I had yet to buy a larger CF card

Singapore and STGCC

A short video of our trip to Singapore, covering the first night, having our first dinner with the great David Lloyd, and going into the 2010 Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention.

Apologies for the choice of music…

Here on the other hand was the East in West Panel, with Leinil Yu talking about influences.  The music didn’t help much… actually made me expect Leinil to start crying

Pictures of the convention are up on my Facebook
